Following the successful outcome of the planning appeal at All Saints, Woodford Wells, MEB Design Architects working closely with Colin Smith of
Colin Smith Planning are pleased to announce that the planning appeal for the development of Esher Green Baptist Church, submitted by written statements, has been successful and the project granted planning permission. This means that Esher Green Baptist Church may now embark on their planned scheme of alteration and extension.

MEB Design Architects are pleased to announce that Planning Permission has been granted for the development at Long Crendon Baptist Church, Oxfordshire. The project will allow the church to have a more welcoming presence from the street whilst also extending and improving spaces, facilities and flexibility. The project has been developed by the Oxford Office annd We look forward to progressing it to the next stage.

MEB Design Architects, London Office have recently been working at the Music Theatre Academy in London. The work has included dividing their downstairs studio space in two, with a mirrored wall to the smaller studio side, a new acoustic pod, where students can practice singing and can record themselves without disturbing others and the principal now has her own office. The work has allowed the building to offer better facilities and greater flexibility of spaces for the students.

Back in September this year, Laboratory News, a monthly magazine aimed at science professionals, took a visit to the Blackburn Science Centre at Bradfield College.
"We were shown around by Head of Science, Rod Dethridge, who happened to mention that since the building had been open, there had been a 40% increase in the number of students wanting to take science – they even had to continue using two temporary classrooms as demand was so high."

Peter Njuguna from the Oxford Office last week paid visit to the Children's Rescue Centre in Eldoret, Kenya. MEB have been involved as Architects with the Project and Charity for many years. The visit was to check progress at the centre where the first buildings, the Administration / Reception building have been completed and are in use, the next buildings currently being completed is the Distressed Mothers Unit, see below for more info:

MEB Design Architects have been working with St Andrew's Church, Oxford on a new building proposal. There has been ongoing consultation to develop the scheme which will result in a church vote in the coming weeks. The Oxford Times have run an article on the project which can be seen below:

Whitemoor Lakes Activity Centre opened it's doors last month to it's first visitors. The sports and activity centre includes 6 accommodation wings, each with contains 48 beds with full en-suite facilities and day rooms. The centre also includes a central sports hall, kitchen, dining room and several meeting and session rooms.

MEB Design Architects helped sponsor a Tribute Dinner on October 14th in memory of John Eddison who died in May 2011. John Eddison was responsible for introducing Director Mark Eddison (his nephew) to Director John Marsh back in the 1970's and therefore played a significant part in starting the original practice known as MEB Partnership that is now MEB Design Ltd.

MEB Design Architects have recently secured planning permission for a contemporary style, 5 bedroom replacement dwelling for a private client, in a countryside setting in Tunbridge. The house is designed to meet level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes (100% improvement on the building regulations) and includes environmental features such as green roofs and a ground source heat pump system. The house is designed over two floors with an external viewing terrace at roof level. The external facade is a textured white porcelain tiles with grey basalt stone feature walls both internally and externally.

MEB Design Architects' project at St Paul's Church, St Albans has been awarded the 'St Albans Civic Society Award' at the award ceremony last night. The award is given to projects which show " imaginative development and design initiatives".
The project involved the complete refurbishment of the existing buildings as well as a new link between the existing Church and Hall creating a flexible concourse space. We are delighted with the award and would like to thank the Church who were a pleasure to work with.

Work has begun on site at Spratton Hall Prep School. The project involves the renovation and extension of their existing school hall, turning it into a dedicated theatre, music teaching and performance space.

The opening ceremony took place for the administration block at the Eldoret Children's Rescue Centre in Kenya. The guest of honour was Prof. James Ole Kiyapi, the permanent secretary for the Ministry of Education in Kenya.

MEB Design Architects have been awarded a Commendation for their entry into the Forty_Forty Photographic competition run by RIBA Bristol & Bath. Charles Darby and Paul Chester of the Oxford Office attended the Considerate Constructors Scheme Annual National Site Awards in London. Feltham Construction, contractor for the Bradfield College, Blackburn Science Centre, took home a Bronze award after coming in the top 7.5% of highest scoring projects. MEB Design worked as Architects on the scheme.

All of MEB's staff met at St Paul's Church in St Albans for a day of 'continuous professional development'. MEB's work reconfiguring and extending the church and its halls has recently finished so it was great for the whole practice to see what has been achieved and what the space is like to use.
The day included useful feedback from the main client contact at St Paul's, a presentation keeping everyone up to date with safety systems for roof access and another introducing document management systems for the construction industry.

MEB Design Architects took part in the Reading Half Marathon 2011 supporting the charities that we work with LARK and GUA Africa. Charles Darby ran the complete race whilst Mark Eddision, Paul Chester, Peter Njuguna and Simon Beaumont placed 3rd out of 70 in the Team Relay Challenge. The official opening ceremony took place on Wednesday 6th October 2010 for the new residential wing to Woking Homes. Opened by Mr Brian Souter (Chief Executive of Stagecoach UK) this new facility provides 17 new residents bedrooms with en-suite facilities for residents with a background in the railway industry. MEB Design Architects ran over saw the new development which also provides a communal lounge area and associated bar along with generous circulation areas maximising the amount of natural day light into the building.

Royal Grammar School Royal Visit - Princess Anne visits the School as part of their 500th anniversary celebrations. The visit incorporated a tour of the school which included the new entrance and reception extension completed by MEB Design Architects earlier in the year.
